The Heroes' Square is at the end of the Andrássy Avenue and is also the entrance to the City Park. The square was built for the 1896 Millennium, as a monument for the thousand year old Hungarian history in the Carpathian Basin. It features 14 statues of the most emblematic historic figures, and an obelisk in the middle. This is the most representative and the most spacious square in Budapest. On the two sides of the monument stand the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The Hero’s Square often hosts big public events, festivals, national celebrations. It is a major tourist attraction.
