On two wheels or on four wheels? How about oars maybe?
Római part can be reached from several directions and by different means of transport. In the neighbouring streets there are plenty of parking lots but you might have to walk a bit. Public transportation is also a great alternative: the Szentendre suburban railway (HÉV) is quite quick and comfortable. Of course once again you might have to walk a bit to reach your destination but the nice summer mood and the fresh smell of hake will keep you going. Don’t worry if you happen to have a bit too many drinks while you’re there, BKV will take good care of you and you will get home safe and sound.
Last but not least you can choose bicycle as well. Let’s just face it – there’s nothing better than riding you bike on the bank of Danube on a hot summer evening, while the mild wind is caressing you.
Luring places
If we are lucky enough we can count the stars on the night sky, but there is one other thing that we can count – the numerous restaurants and the buffets at Római. It might be a good idea to take a good look around first. We will find great places; luring places that will attract us and places that we will need to try right away.

Fellini on the bank of the Danube
“It's easier to be faithful to a restaurant than it is to a woman” – said Federico Fellini. Without elaborating on the complexness of the female soul, let us just say that this old saying is absolutely true when it comes to Fellini Római Kultúrbisztró. We can trust them; we will get exactly what we expect for every single time. Sometimes we expect for a little chill, sometimes we would just like to lay around, enjoy the sunshine and read a good book and sometimes we just want to have some fun – we can do all sorts of things right next to a trailer, which has a great view. Fellini offers live music, cultural programmes, they have a bicycle service-station and last but not least they offer great sandwiches and Belgian beers. A sandwich is 880 forints while a pair of Bavarian grill sausages cost 920 forints. Vegetarians will be satisfied as well. There is a vegetarian pita for 480 forints and there’s also tortilla chips with avocado dip for 350 forints. No matter how we got to Római, this is a place where we definitely have to make a stop.
Dancing and drinking cider under the trees
We had our very first ice-cold cider at Evezős Beergarden. What a great refreshment in the summer heat! The place looked really friendly with the huge wooden tables, with all the parasols and with the ramps made out of floor beams. If you decide to come here you should try the fried trout, walleye or pike but you can also try the well-know fried hake. There are no big differences between the prices of the surrounding places – 30-40 forints maximum. If you happen to arrive in the evening, don’t be surprised if you find yourself in the middle of a party; you should expect for retro music and a huge dance floor.

Hake and Nyárfás
The name – Nyárfás Café – is quite misleading. This place is anything but a café so don’t expect for impeccable white tablecloths and a lovely interior. As we enter Nyárfás we start by ordering a fresh fried hake with a side of pickles and home-made bread. Of course there are other great dishes on the menu as well – bean soup and ‘brassói’ deserve to be mentioned for example. Whatever you choose, choose well because the portions are huge. There’s a terrace and a bicycle storage facility as well. All of these things are quite crowd attracting so you should be prepared for a massive queue.
A place for the fish-soup addicts
The next place we suggest you is a bit more elegant. It’s called Csónakház and some might say that it’s the gemstone of the area. The boathouse building itself was originally built in 1920 and for more than 70 years it was a home for several so called KillBoats. Nowadays the building has a monument status. It’s very elegant, it has an intimate atmosphere, there’s a huge terrace as well and the view is breathtaking. It’s the best choice for couples who are in a romantic mood. The prices are reasonable and the quality is fine.

Looking for the best confectionery
We totally understand why some people happen to choose ice-cream over – or besides – pancakes in the heat of summer. Fortunately Cziniel confectionary – that is known for their great cookies and cakes – decided to open a little ice-cream booth on the riverside. So keep dessert in mind when you order your meal in the neighbouring restaurants and buffets.
It would be almost impossibly to list all the great places around Római part. Some things are for sure – no one will leave hungry or thirsty and no one will be able to escape the mosquitoes.
