Wine hotel in Badacsony - Bonvino

2012. 02. 02.

On the northern side of Lake Balaton between the columnar basalts and the vines of Badacsony hides a very special wine hotel, Bonvino Wine & Spa. The hotel emanating a rustic mood could be a fine choice for those who would like to spend a weekend drinking quality wines in a modern, rehashed environment.

We discovered Hotel Bonvino-t last fall, when the sun still provided enough warmth so that we could pay a visit to one of the most atmospheric regions in Hungary at the time of the harvest. The warmth of the sun is nowhere to be found this time, it’s the freezing cold and the winter breeze that reign over the landscape and our minds and bodies keep craving for some wellness treatment and a few glasses of quality wine.
The wishes evoked by winter can be fulfilled perfectly at Hotel Bonvino, opened last year. Their motto, “Experience Badacsony!” is meant to lure guests. The hotel of activity and wine in the Balaton Uplands National Park offers a special alternative for those who seek recreation while wanting to distance themselves from the busy weekdays.

Winedesign
There has to be a passage dedicated to the design of Bonvino. The Geppetto Belsőépítész Iroda (Geppetto Interior Design) created such a 48-room building themed around wine that there’s not a single nook without a bottle winking at you, a little graphic depicting a vine or at least a faint allusion to the wine region. „Bonvino is a journey of wine from the reception to the wellness section” – claim the designers and they could well be right, since the room numbers can be found next to the doors on bottles and the corridors are sources of information as to the stages of wine-making. The bottle-installation in the restaurant also suits perfectly the mood of modern romance and it reminds the guest to have another drink beside the dinner.

Wine-themed rooms
36 double rooms, 4 luxury rooms, 6 two-atmosphere apartments, a honeymoon suite and a family suite serve the convenience of guests. A further peculiarity is that the style of the rooms is determined by the two methods utilized in wine-making: the one using wooden barrels and the reductive one. The latter one characterizes the modern rooms, their atmosphere and the materials used. Here you will find metallic shiny surfaces and cosy vivid colors. The rustic double rooms bear the marks of the classic method of wooden barrels, thus, wood and other natural materials dominate the design here. Each of the 48 rooms conveys a different message.

Gastronomy
At Bonvino the buffet style breakfast offers a great variety of delicacies to choose from, such as coffee specialties, home-made jams made of regional ingredients or mangalica products, and you can also read different newspapers between two bites. Especially good news for the sweet-toothed is that there’s even farina for breakfast, and it’s as good as the one you’re used to at home. Another specialty is the cheese buffet, and those getting up late might even opt for a breakfast in bed.
For lunch you can choose from the menu made up of seasonal dishes but dinner is served in buffet style again. The atmospheric lights and the homey flavors could prove to be great for a family get-together. After eating you might want to visit the “soul” of the hotel, the winebar, where you can get to know the cellars, and numerous wine-themed programs are held with some snacks, grapes and cheese. Guests usually gather here in the evenings and play with glasses in their hands, having fun with friends and family.

Wellness
After a tiring morning tour, a good ride in the fresh air, a drive somewhere, a volleyball game, a visit to a nearby castle or a cellar raid it’s nice to have a little muscle-relaxing, stress-dissolving and at the same time healing treatment of the body. This is exactly what the wellness section of Hotel Bonvino is made for. Next to the swimming pool equipped with some special features you can lounge in the Jacuzzi with your partner, but even children have a separate pool to have fun. Also, you can kill some time in the sunbathing terrace or lying on the relaxing beds after a fine time spent in the sauna or the steam room. If you want more than that, why don’t you try the services of the day spa? Our favorite was the lava massage with grape seed oil and the body treatment called “csoki a köbön” (=chocolate cubed).
